Gladys's mother, Dr. Elizabeth (Scott) Matheson. Elizabeth was a teacher from the early age of seventeen, and became a physician after attending the Ontario Women's Medical College. Gladys would grow to display the same diligent, joyful and compassionate spirit her mother possessed.
