St.Barnabas Mission from the family photo album and the Matheson Lake Plaque

A full view of the St. Barnabas Mission in Onion Lake, Saskatchewan. The newly married John and Elizabeth Matheson arrived and settled here in 1892. Both taught in the church/school and worked together at maintaining and developing the Mission. John used his carpentry skills to build a better school and a hospital for which his wife could work as a doctor for the mission and surrounding area. They raised their family here and their contributions were recognized by having a lake named in their honor (Matheson Lake).
