What Is the Purpose of Workplace Representative Program?
To develop professional representatives in the workplace who are peer resources. To explore creative ways to continue to work towards quality workplaces. To support professional representatives in the workplace to promote good nursing practice.
What is the Role of Workplace Representatives?
- Assisting nurses to understand the mission and mandate of the SRNA
- Assisting colleagues to understand and value self-regulation
- Providing a communication link between nurses in the workplace and the SRNA
- Organizing activities to increase nurse' understanding and application of Standards for Nursing Practice
- Serving as a resource and actively seeking opportunities to inform colleagues of SRNA programs and resources to promote good nursing practice
- Referring colleagues to a appropriate SRNA resources
- Posting and distributing SRNA communications
- In agencies with more than one workplace representative, working with other reps in planning activities and sharing responsibilities (e.g., maintaining bulletin board, staff orientation)
- Mentoring new workplace representatives in own agency
- Identifying and relaying Workplace Rep learning needs to Membership Development staff person
- Attending and participating in Regional meetings and leadership development activities as scheduled.
- Maintaining communication and networking with Membership units such as Chapters and Professional Practice Groups
How does the Program Work?
The SRNA needs your input: How can we increase communication with you our members. The SRNA will provide the workplace representatives with an orientation to the SRNA. The workplace representative will agree to the above role description.
What are the benefits to the nurses and agencies involved in the Program?
- Increased awareness of the Standards of Nursing Practice
- Provide a support network for nursing practice in the continuous effort of provding safe client care in working towards a quality workplace.
