Internationally Educated Nurses: Graduate Nurse (GN) Licence

Once you are scheduled to write the CRNE, you can apply for a graduate nurse (GN) licence. This is a temporary, four-month licence with two possible four-month extensions. Once you have passed the CRNE, the GN licence is no longer available.

To apply for a GN licence:

  • Send us the Application for Temporary Licence to Practise Nursing as a Graduate Nurse with the fee;
  • Tell us what date you would like it processed; and
  • Contact us to confirm that you are licenced as a GN before you begin work. Practising without a licence is in violation of The Registered Nurses Act, 1988 and there would be no liability coverage for either yourself or your employer.

We will mail an official licence and receipt to you after the date of processing.

If you will not be working in Saskatchewan before you pass the CRNE, you do not need to apply for a GN licence.

GNs and RNs are required to participate in the Continuing Competence Program. See our Home Page for the Online Tutorial.

For information on renewing your GN licence and the scope of practice, go to Graduate Nurse Licence/Exam.
