Under Bylaw V, Section 3(1)(a), in order to maintain eligibility for registration as a practising member, a RN must work 1125 hours in the five-year period immediately preceding the registration year for which registration is sought. Under Bylaw VI, Section 8(a) a RN(NP) must work 1800 hours (600 of which must be clinical) in the 3 year period immediately preceding the registration year for which registration is sought. For example, to be eligible for 2011 registration, a RN must have worked at least 1125 hours; a RN(NP) must have worked at least 1800 hours from December 1, 2006 - November 30, 2010 inclusive.

Members may revise their hours at any time during the five-year period by correcting them on their renewal form. If the renewal season has passed,  you may revise your hours by going online through the Membership Profile. If you do not have access to the online service please provide - in writing (signed and dated) to the SRNA - your RN number and the correct number of  hours worked. The only time employer verifications are required is during an audit, or if a member does not reach the hourly bylaw requirement and requests an extension.

The SRNA has a legislative responsibility to ensure that members meet the hourly bylaw requirement. The Audit Program serves this purpose.  Compliance with the hourly bylaw requirement serves to ensure that Saskatchewan RNs and RN(NP)s remain competent in nursing skills, knowledge and judgement. Members are selected at random, to participate in the SRNA Audit Program. They are notified by letter. They complete the top section of the audit form, sign it and forward it to their human resource/payroll office. Their signature, on the audit form, authorizes human resource/payroll to complete the form and forward the information directly to the SRNA.

The RN is sent information regarding the employer-verified hours. To date, discrepancies in self-reported hours and employer-verified hours have been extremely minor and are usually the result of vacation leave, sick leave and overtime issues.
