Saskatchewan Graduates

Fact Sheet For Saskatchewan Nursing Students Graduating In 2008

  1. Employment - When seeking initial employment as a graduate nurse, remember the following:
    • You must be licenced by the SRNA before you can practise as a graduate nurse, registered nurse, registered nurse (nurse practitioner) or call yourself a "nurse".
    • You need to advise your employer that you cannot start employment as a "graduate nurse" for approximately 15 days after the official completion date of the nursing education program. (Reason: We need to receive the official transcripts from the nursing education programs and to process the required documentation.)
  2. Required Documentation
    • You will be required to submit a copy of your birth certificate along with any change of name documents, such as a marriage certificate, a copy of current photo ID, and the required application forms and fees.
    • You must provide satisfactory evidence of good character
  3. Registration/Licensure Examination
    • You must write the registration/licensure examination at the first available opportunity.
    • 2008 RN Examination Dates:
      • February 6, 2008
      • June 4, 2008
      • October 8, 2008

  4. Graduate Nurse Licence Extensions
    • If you require an extension to your first graduate nurse (GN) licence, please submit a letter to SRNA requesting an extension of your graduate nurse licence along with the fee of $161.02. Your employer must also send a letter directly to SRNA confirming that your employment will be extended and that you are practising at a safe and competent level for a GN.

It is important that employers and graduate nurses be vigilant of the 4 month expiry date on the graduate nurse licence and that they contact SRNA for graduate nurse licence extensions if necessary.
