SRNA will hold incomplete applications for five years. Regulations and entry requirements are subject to bylaw and policy changes.
Once we receive all requirements and your application is approved, you will be eligible for a graduate nurse licence.
Graduate Nurse (GN) Licence
The GN licence is a temporary, four-month licence with two possible four-month extensions. You must be scheduled to write the CRNE or Quebec Order of RN (OIIQ) in order to be eligible for a GN licence or extension. Once you have passed the CRNE or Quebec Order of RN (OIIQ), the GN licence is no longer available.

to confirm that you are licenced as a GN before you begin work. Practising without a licence is in violation of The Registered Nurses Act, 1988 and there would be no liability coverage for either yourself or your employer.
We will mail a licence and receipt to you after the effective date.
GNs and RNs are required to participate in the Continuing Competence Program. See our Online Tutorial and documents.
When you pass the CRNE or Quebec Order of RN (OIIQ), you will be eligible to apply for RN licensure in Saskatchewan.
To Apply for an Extension of Your GN Licence
It is important to apply for the GN licence extension before your expiry date so there is no lapse in licensure.
The following requirements must be received at SRNA no sooner than one month before your expiry date to ensure they are current at the time of extension.
If you were unsuccessful on the CRNE or Quebec Order of RN (OIIQ) and are applying for a GN licence extension, we must receive confirmation that you are scheduled to rewrite the examination before you will be eligible for the extension. Send the Verification of Scheduled RN Examination Writing form and required fee to the regulatory body in the jurisdiction where you are scheduled to write the examination. They will fill in their section and return the form directly to our office.
First Extension:
- Send a signed and dated letter to SRNA, including your address and phone number, requesting extension of your licence with the fee (Fee Schedule) GN Credit Card Payment Form;
