NP Regulation Project

The Nurse Practitioner Regulation Framework Implementation Plan Project (NPR-FIPP) commissioned by the Canadian Council of Registered Nurse Regulators (CCRNR), among other elements, will provide a standardized examination with consistent regulation for NPs across the country. Additionally, this single standardized examination, will result in provincial regulators regulating one category of NP practice and no longer regulating NP specialties.

At the current stage of the project, the focus remains on developing work plans and beginning the work on an entry level examination and review of the entry-level competencies. A Request for Proposal has been publicly issued for the development and administration of the previously mentioned national NP examination. This project will involve consultation from provincial and national stakeholders. The SRNA will be setting up meetings with provincial key stakeholders to inform them of the project and discuss future consultation.

The SRNA encourages any members that may be interested in staying up to date on this project to subscribe to the CCRNR NPR-FIPP newsletter to receive single-page updates of the current activities of the Project Steering Committee.
