Saskatchewan RN(NP)s Gather at 14th Annual Nurse Practitioner Education Conference
The Saskatchewan Association of Nurse Practitioners (SANP) hosted its 14th annual Nurse Practitioner Education Conference in Regina on April 20 and 21. This provincial conference provides nurse practitioners from across Saskatchewan the opportunity to network and enhance their education. The SRNA was one of the conference sponsors.
This year SANP offered educational presentations on pain management and strategies to prevent prescription forgery. The conference also included a review of the Colon Cancer Screening guidelines, adult ADHD treatment options and an update on hypertension guidelines and application in primary care. Additionally, there were sessions on dementia, nutrition for metabolic syndrome and common dermatology presentations in primary care.
As an exciting new addition to this year’s conference, there was a half-day dedicated to a special workshop, which this year was the Spinal Pathway session facilitated by neurosurgeon Dr. Buwembo.
Each year during the conference, an NP who demonstrates exemplary leadership is celebrated at a dinner and awards ceremony. This year’s recipient, Debbie Bathgate, was recognized for her many years of NP service advocacy and leadership.
As part of SANP’s commitment to supporting student participation, two students were funded to attend this year’s conference. Students have commented on what a valuable networking opportunity this conference provides and how it enables them to make connections that will help the transition into their new roles as nurse practitioners.
