RN Scope of Practice
Scope of practice includes the range of services and activities that RNs are educated and authorized to perform under the terms of their professional license.
An RNs scope of practice is outlined in the Registered Nurses Act, 1988 [Section 2(k)], and further defined in the SRNA’s Interpretation of the RN Scope of Practice (2015). This includes key competencies including:
- Leadership & Professionalism,
- Coordination of Care,
- Collaboration, etc.
Depending on their level of education, each RN has an individual scope of practice. They are also bound by the scope laid out by their employer.
